Semi-trailer tiny house living

Tiny House building has been around for decades now, but when we began building our home into an ex-refrigerated semi-trailer in 2019, not many people seemed to be utilising this method.

An elderly gent by the name of Rob Mair (who has since passed) put this idea onto the radar for us when he showed us one that he was in the progress of building at one of the many tiny house gatherings we were attending at the time. Both Heidi and I were immediately taken by the amount of space both in length and height that could be utilised for a very comfortable interior living area. He put his sales hat on (as he would later be attempting to sell empty semi trailers to anyone who is interested!) and further enticed us with the fact that the walls and ceiling were already incorporated into the structure thus we didn’t have to build, insulate or weatherproof them. Additionally, the whole platform was extremely robust and was not weight-restricted like most tiny houses on trailers.

Throughout this section you will find design tips and lists like pros and cons for this type of living as well as other tiny house builds that utilise semi trailers at their core.
