Our big tiny house journey

The tiny house journey began for Heidi and I as early as 2010 when I have found a journal entry suggesting that tiny house living would coincide perfectly with an effort to live minimally, plus with the potential of community. The latter hasn’t happened yet (council acceptance still being the barrier) but we have turned our dreams into reality and have achieved at one time what seemed like too much of a mountain to climb.

As a big fan of Jay Shearer‘s tiny house experiment (Jay is considered the granddaddy of the modern tiny house movement), I imagined that this would be a great way to realise our downsizing dream. Turns out, we did get there! In 2019, we got started on building and living tiny and by 2022 we were living in our big tiny house on wheels (huge by Jay’s standards but tiny by society’s!).

This blog is largely dedicated to the journey as it started in 2019 and covers the building process (along with a YouTube documentary series of the process) through to the ongoing writing and video journey as we look at helpful tiny hints and tips, upgrades and alterations as we find what works best for us, interviews with other tiny folks, thoughts on tiny living and much more! A re-jig of the YouTube channel is underway and I’ll keep you posted once that is live.
